Dr. Catherine Goetze
Senior Lecturer at the University of Sussex
Welcome to my webpage.
I am senior lecturer for global studies at the School of Global Studies at the University of Sussex.
My main research interest lies in the sociological structures of globalisation and the social origins of the global diffusion of power. From 2008 to 2015, I have
led a research project on civilian staff in peacebuilding missions. This summer my book 'The Distinction of Peace' will come out with The University of Michigan Press. In my book I analyse who becomes a peacebuilder and how the sociology of peacebuilding shapes the ideas and visions of peace that are realised in UN peacebuilding missions around the world. You will find more information on the research project and my book on the page 'The Peacebuilders'.

As part of my interest in the social structures of globalisation, I am planing a future research project on the role of families, family belonging and family lineages in world politics. I did some first exploratory research on multi-national expatriate families in Asia. I will report on this research on my blog and you can also find more information under the tab 'Research projects'.

Formerly, I worked also on the epistemology of conflict in international relations and older blog postings mostly deal with readings on peace and conflict. I am keeping an eye on this area because it is highly relevant for my teaching which is mainly in the areas of traditional international relations, international security and world politics.
You can find some of my teaching materials under the tab 'Teaching'.
Enjoy having a look around my webpage!
